Twenty libraries in Delhi you've never visited

SAGAR: a south asia research journal
Anyone planning a research trip to Delhi should read Daniel Majchrowicz's archive review in the October 11th 2013 issue of  SAGAR: a South Asia Research Journal.

Daniel, a PhD candidate in the field of Islamic Cultures of South Asia at Harvard University, reviews twenty libraries often overlooked by visiting scholars.  The online article includes links to library websites (where available), location maps, and lots of helpful tips about the collections and buildings, including the best times to visit them.

Ecole Francaise d'Extreme-Orient

 EFEO
We were delighted to welcome Maïté Hurel, Librarian for South Asia, École Française d'Extrême-Orient in Paris, to our recent SAALG conference in Cambridge.

Readers unfamiliar with the work and resources of l'École Française d'Extrême-Orient, are recommended to visit their website at: http://www.efeo.fr/index.php?l=EN
Managed as a blog, the website has an English-language version, for those of us more linguistically challenged than Maïté!  It is superbly organised and contains links to their centres across south and south-east Asia, links to library catalogues under Documentary resources, contact details for academic staff under Research/Geographical areas and details of new publications.

Cambridge news: The Centre is moving!

Advance warning: The Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge, will be moving from its picturesque riverside location in Laundress Lane to the Alison Richard Building, 7 West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9DP between 14 December and 16 January 2012.

During this period access to the Centre's library and archive collections will be severely limited and visitors are advised not to plan research trips to Cambridge.

The Centre's new premises will be on the top floor of 7 West Road, with a fine view of the University Library.  Our collections will also benefit from purpose-built archival stores.

For a webcam view of the new building see:http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/em/estate/building_projects/westroad/webcam/

Our website, telephone numbers and email addresses will remain the same.

We look forward to welcoming back researchers in the New Year.

New wiki guide to libraries and archives in South Asia

The Libraries & Archives in South Asia (LASA) wiki is a collaborative effort to compile a guide to South Asian libraries and archives for academics and researchers in the humanities and social sciences. The LASA wiki contains detailed information about libraries and archives in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It aims to become a full-fledged portal to research in South Asia, for the scholarly community and by the scholarly community.

Every entry in the wiki can be improved upon with new or updated information. A typical entry contains location, contact information, basic access and collection information and a link to the institution's website when it is available. More detailed information, including maps, photographs, links to online catalogs, etc. are provided when available.

LASAwiki is a project of the Digital South Asia Library (DSAL) developed by the University of Chicago Library with support from the Division of the Humanities at the University of Chicago. The LASA wiki was created by Samip Mallick, Assistant Bibliographer for Southern Asia, University of Chicago Library.
